Alaska Bush Adventures
We are a small family owned business that operates in a very remote and secluded area of Western Alaska. We have two main base camps each located in upper mountain river drainages which are accessible only by a Dehavillan Beaver bush plane with extended range fuel tanks on floats. Our closest camp is a 2.5 hour flight and the other is a 3 hour flight out from Anchorage.
We are one of the few Alaskan guide outfitters that offer as much specialized equipment for the Clients hunting transportation in the Alaskan terrain. Most Guide operations only use Super Cubs and hunt out of spike camps by foot. We offer Super Cub fly outs to spike camps as well, but also utilize 8-wheel drive Argos and 14' Jon Boats with 40 h.p. Motors powered by Jet drive for hunting. The Bear density in our area is high therefore provides us with liberal season limits of two Brown/Grizzly Bear and up to five Black Bear a year.
From 1990 to 2004 Alaska's Predator Control Program was put on hold statewide. This resulted in a proliferation of Wolves by some calculations, of up to 4 times the average number which provides a healthy and stable eco system for wildlife. During this time the prey quarry of Wolves, such as the Moose, Caribou, Beavers, River Otters, Squirrels, Ptarmigan, Grouse and many more species took a huge hit and over all their numbers dropped dramatically throughout much of the State. Fortunately for both big and small game along with the hunter, the Intensive Predator Control Program allowing once again a way to control the poplulation of Wolves by private pilots through permits was once again sanctioned and launched by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game starting in 2004. The plan was to increase Moose and Caribou populations and therefore improve the harvest throughout the state. At that time, the Alaska Board of Game approved three to start with and two of those were within the Central Kuskokwim River area of Game Management Unit 19. Fortunately for us, our Guided and Unguided hunts also take place in GMU 19. Since then a handful more of these Predator Programs have been established throughout Alaska. Due to the restoration of the Predator Management Program in our hunting areas, Moose survival is now much superior to numerous other regions within the State where the Predator Management Program has not been reestablished. We have witnessed and observed a remarkable and well-adjusted growth of Wildlife overall, as well as a healthy increase in numbers of Moose. When and where this program has been implemented, it continues to deliver additional stable and balanced Ungulate population growth. Fortunately, we are again able to appreciate the sound benefits of these sensible and effective types of Game Management agendas which afford a respectable stability for all wildlife species and deliver some great Moose hunting to boot.

When hunting Black Bear the season is open year round in our guide use areas where the bears can be found both fishing on the rivers and in the mountains feeding on berries. This is a good time to use our jet boats to hunt the spots they frequent and to watch at the entrances of the streams that hold large numbers of spawning Alaskan Salmon. In mid August more Bears begin to migrate off of the Salmon streams climbing up to the mountains to search for wild berries. The spot and stalk method is used here very successful. When a good bear is spotted the chase begins and all of our efforts are used to get into position to make the harvest. Numerous bears have gotten away because of poor shooting and the lack of stamina needed to close the deal. More than likely the stalk will require that we move to intercept a bear as it travels around the mountain feeding on berries or on the rivers/streams while the salmon are still running in large numbers.
In the Fall the colors are spectacular, animals begin to move about more and it's truly a great time to be in the wild bush wilderness in Alaska. Our Guides have many seasoned years of experience in hunting, glassing, scouting along with extensive knowledge of Black Bears. You may also enjoy excellent Sport Fishing during your hunt for Alaskan Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, (Char) Dolly Varden, Burbot, Northern Pike, Alaskan Chinook (Kings), Sockeye (Reds) and Coho (Silver) Salmon on the fresh water rivers we hunt.
SECURING YOUR LICENSE AND TAGS
Nonresident and Nonresident Alien hunters must buy the appropriate metal locking tag before hunting a big game animal. Immediately after the kill, the tag must be affixed & locked on the animal. The tag must remain on the animal until the animal is prepared for storage, exported, or consumed. For animals such as bear, in units where the meat is not required to be salvaged, tags must be locked on the hide.
For our Guided clients we will sell you your license and tags once you arrive in hunting camp. Additional tags are available at our camp should you wish to take another animal during your hunt. Big Game Tags are not to be confused with Harvest Tickets which are required when hunting for Moose & Caribou. They are free & available at the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.
DO GUIDES RECEIVE GRATUITIES
